Let’s be fair and include the quarrelsome husband.
A contentious spouse is an uncontrollable calamity.

13 Take the garment of one who puts up security for a stranger;
hold it in pledge if it is done for an outsider.

The surety must hold the asset of the creditor for the debtor,
especially when the debtor is a newcomer to the creditor.
Somewhat akin to escrow.
