Discerning Or Foolish Son
7 A discerning son heeds instruction,
but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.
A reasonable person follows a decent path.
A fool does not contemplate his path.
A Sling, A Stone, And A Fool
8 Like tying a stone in a sling
is the giving of honor to a fool.
Tying a stone in a sling
is not only pointless,
it is dangerous.
A fool deserves no honor.
Striving For Veracity
13 Like a snow-cooled drink at harvest time
is a trustworthy messenger to the one who sends him;
he refreshes the spirit of his master.
A righteous person strives to complete his assignment
accurately for the requestor.
Receiving What Is Merited
12 If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,”
does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
Does not he who guards your life know it?
Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?
God protects your life
and knows your involvement in a matter,
even if you deny any knowledge of it.
He will respond to you according to your actions.
Speaking Of Wisdom
15 My son, if your heart is wise,
then my heart will be glad indeed;
16 my inmost being will rejoice
when your lips speak what is right.
If your spirit is wise,
wisdom will grace your speech.
