Evildoers Lead Hopeless Lives – Proverbs 24:19-20

Evildoers Lead Hopeless Lives
Proverbs 24:19-20 (NIV)

19 Do not fret because of evildoers
or be envious of the wicked,

and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.

Do not fear or respect the wicked.
Their worthless lives will be shattered.

Rescue Your Enemy – Proverbs 24:17-18

Rescue Your Enemy
Proverbs 24:17-18 (NIV)

17 Do not gloat when your enemy falls;
when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice,

18 or the Lord will see and disapprove
and turn his wrath away from them.

Proverbs Club Commentary

Do not celebrate the failures of your enemy
because the Lord will turn and remove his punishment.
This rings false to the Christian
because it is for a society under the law,
not under grace.

Do not celebrate the failures of your enemy.
Pray for your enemy.
Bless your enemy.
Love your enemy.
Do good to your enemy.
Give funds to your enemy.

Jesus did and told us to do so, also.

do not plunder their dwelling place;

16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again,
but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.

Proverbs Club Commentary

Do not plunder the righteous because they will recover.
And the plunderer will be afflicted.

Receiving What Is Merited
Proverbs 24:12

12 If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,”
does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
Does not he who guards your life know it?
Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?

NIV

PCDC Commentary

God protects your life
and knows your involvement in a matter,
even if you deny any knowledge of it.
He will respond to you according to your actions.
